2 Full and 4 Half Encounters... How Did the STF Solve the Sultanpur Robbery?

In the Sultanpur robbery case, the UP STF has conducted two full and four half encounters so far. Mangesh Yadav and Anuj Pratap Singh, involved in the robbery, have died in encounters, while four criminals were injured and arrested. Police have arrested a total of nine suspects so far, while three others are still on the run.

The gang involved in the robbery at the jeweler's shop in Sultanpur, UP, consisted of 14 criminals. Out of these, 11 have either been arrested or encountered. The UP STF neutralized Mangesh Yadav and Anuj Pratap Singh during encounters, while the remaining criminals were either encountered or cornered and arrested. Three criminals are still at large, with different police teams working on their arrest.

On August 28, masked and armed robbers stormed into Om Ornaments, a shop in the Thathree Bazaar area of Sultanpur, and carried out a daylight robbery. The assailants held the shopkeeper and others at the store hostage using firearms. The jeweler reported that the robbers made away with around two crore rupees' worth of loot.

August 29: Vipin Singh Surrenders

The day after the incident, on August 29, the gang leader Vipin Singh surrendered at the Raebareli court. Vipin Singh had expressed his fear of being encountered in a media interaction. On September 3, in the Kotwali area of Sultanpur, the police encountered Pushpendra Singh, Tribhuwan Kori, and Sachin Singh, leading to their arrest. These criminals were involved in the reconnaissance for the robbery and had a backup escape plan using a Bolero on the day of the incident.

September 5: Mangesh Yadav's Encounter

On September 5, robbery accused Mangesh Yadav died in an encounter with the STF. This encounter took place at the Hanumangunj bypass in the rural police station area of Sultanpur. Mangesh, who hailed from Jaunpur's Baksh police station area and had a bounty of one lakh rupees on his head, opened fire on the police first. With several prior cases against him, the police retaliated in self-defense, resulting in his death.

Police Arrest Five More Criminals

Following the encounter with Mangesh Yadav, Sultanpur police successfully arrested four more criminals without needing an encounter. On September 11, the police arrested Vivek Singh, Vinay Shukla, Arvind Yadav, and Durgesh Singh. On September 20, the STF encountered Ajay Yadav, shooting him in the leg before arresting him after treatment at the district hospital.

Encounter with Anuj Pratap Singh in Unnao

Three days after the incident, the STF encountered Anuj Pratap Singh and his accomplice in the Achalganj police station area of Unnao. The shooting led to one criminal getting injured while the other managed to flee. The injured was taken to a nearby hospital and then referred to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The deceased was identified as Anuj Pratap Singh, son of Dharamraj Singh from the Mohanganj police station area in Amethi.

Five Robbers Entered the Shop

UP police stated that five robbers entered the jewelry shop to commit the robbery. The criminals included Ankit Yadav, Arbaaz, Mangesh Yadav, Anuj Pratap Singh, and Furkan. Among these, Mangesh Yadav and Anuj Pratap Singh have been killed in encounters, while Furkan, Arbaaz, and Ankit Yadav are on the run with a bounty of one lakh rupees each declared on them.
