The leader of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC), Maulana Tauqeer Raza, has been arrested by the police in connection with the violence in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Following the Friday prayers, a major disturbance erupted. Several individuals from the Muslim community marched with 'I Love Mohammad' posters near the Al Hazrat Dargah, quickly turning the protest into a violent encounter. The protesters resorted to stone-pelting at the police, compelling them to use batons to control the situation.
As a consequence, Maulana Tauqeer Raza has been detained and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Along with him, 8 others have been jailed, and a continuous spate of FIRs have been filed regarding the violence.
Totaling the chaos, Bareilly’s SSP reported that 10 FIRs have been registered, with 5 at the Kotwali police station, 2 at Baradari, 1 at Premnagar, and 1 at Cantt. So far, police have made 8 arrests and detained 39 individuals. Maulana Tauqeer Raza himself faces 7 FIRs. A total of 22 police personnel were injured in this severe turmoil.

According to news agency PTI, District Magistrate Avinash Singh remarked that the police acted swiftly and have brought the situation fully under control. He appealed to the public to disregard any rumors. The Uttar Pradesh government also issued a statement claiming the Bareilly violence was a conspiracy aimed at disrupting industry and investment in western UP.

Identities Revealed Through Video and Photos
Police officials stayed in touch with religious leaders before prayers, ensuring peace in most areas, although some miscreants engaged in stone-pelting, damaging vehicles and shops. DIG Ajay Kumar Sahni emphasized that those involved will be identified through videos and photographs, facing stringent actions accordingly.
