There's no denying that digital payment methods like UPI have revolutionized transactions in India, making them not just different but incredibly convenient. With just a click, payments are completed. However, not everyone is in favor of online payments. Many, like Chennai's auto rickshaw drivers, still believe in cash and steer clear of any form of online payment.
Indeed, a woman named Suvetha Gunasekaran booked an auto ride via app, only to find herself in a tight spot. She discovered that the driver would neither accept UPI payments nor stop at an ATM for cash withdrawal.
Interestingly, to avoid repeating this directive to every passenger, the driver had a notice affixed to his windshield that read, 'GPay is not available. The vehicle will not stop for ATM withdrawals.'
In response to her experience, Suvetha shared her story through a witty Twitter post. Her post has been viewed over 233k times and has garnered a flurry of responses.
A fellow Twitter user shared their experience stating that they had traveled with the same auto driver, who exhibited similarly rude behavior.
We reiterate that despite the growing popularity of digital payments across India, there is a considerable number of vendors and auto drivers who do not fully trust this facility.
As a result, such incidents continue to occur, causing inconvenience for those who rely on cashless transactions. If you have ever faced a similar situation, please share with us in the comments.
