In a fierce encounter with terrorists in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, two brave soldiers were martyred. Subsequently, security forces eliminated four terrorists and suspect the presence of another four. Operations were launched after receiving intel on terrorist presence at two separate locales, which culminated in the encounter.
A braveheart from Akola, Maharashtra, fell victim to the attack, hailing from the village of Morgaon Bhakere. Identified as Praveen Prabhakar Janjal, his martyrdom has enveloped his village in sorrow. Janjal joined the Indian Army in 2019 and was recently married last year, leaving behind his wife, parents, and elder brother in grief.
Intelligence received on Lashkar group
Shortly after the commencement of the first military operation, another gunfire incident erupted in the Chingam village. Security forces had received intelligence on the presence of the Lashkar group in the area, prompting a rapid deployment. An intense firefight ensued between the army and the terrorists following the initial intel that led to a search and engagement in Kulgam.
Encounter reported two months ago too
Encounters in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, have been reported previously. On the 6th of May, based on intelligence input about a Lashkar hideout, joint forces conducted a search operation in the Redwani Pine area, which led to an exchange of fire.
Attack on IAF convoy
Earlier on the 4th of May, terrorists ambushed an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy in Poonch district resulting in one IAF personnel's martyrdom and leaving four others injured. Officials reported the attack occurred in the evening as the convoy was advancing towards Sanai Top in Surankote.
