The couple vanished on May 23, and on June 2, Raja’s body was discovered in a ravine while the search for his wife continued. Guide Albert PD from Mawkhliaht recounted seeing the couple climbing over 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawkhliaht on May 23 at around 10 AM, accompanied by three male tourists.

Albert recognized them from the day before when he had offered his services for descent to Nongriat, but they had courteously declined, hiring another guide instead. The four men were leading, with the woman trailing. They conversed in Hindi, which Albert didn’t understand as he only knew Khasi and English.
