The mysterious case of Raja and Sonam Raghuwanshi from Indore, who went to Meghalaya for their honeymoon, has shaken the entire city. After the tragic murder of Raja, Sonam remains missing. In hopes of her safe return, her family has hung her photograph upside down at the entrance of their Govind Nagar home, following a traditional belief that it aids in bringing missing persons back safely.
Following the advice of a pundit, Sonam's picture was placed outside upside down. Neighbor Shubham Pandey has also expressed sympathy for the family's sorrow. Shillong police, NDRF, and special investigation team (SIT) are on the search for Sonam. The location of Raja's scooter was found stationary, leading police to suspect that this was where the incident took place.
Today, a remembrance meeting for Raja will be held at his home, after which the family will plan their next steps. The eyes of Indore are on Shillong, awaiting positive news about Sonam's safety.
Sonam hails from Govind Colony, located in Indore city, and married Raja Raghuwanshi, a resident of CAT Road, on May 11 following Hindu rituals. Post-marriage, the couple departed for their honeymoon to Shillong on May 20.
They reached Mawkhliaht village on May 22 and stayed at Shipara Homestay in Nongriat. On May 23, after checking out in the morning, the family lost contact with them. On May 24, their rented scooter was found abandoned in Sohra Rim. On June 2, Raja's body was found in a deep gorge near the Weisawdong waterfall, confirming his murder. However, Sonam is still missing.
Sonam's father, Devi Singh Raghuwanshi, appealed to the media, "We urge the government and authorities to find Sonam swiftly. Just as tourist destinations are being promoted, strict measures should be taken for tourists' safety."
Sonam's brother, Govind Raghuwanshi, who is actively searching in Shillong, said, "I still believe Sonam is alive. While the police are searching for a dead body, we hold hope for her being alive. It's time to involve the army in this search."
