The honeymoon of newlyweds Raja Raghuwanshi and Sonam, who traveled from Indore to the scenic landscapes of Meghalaya, has become shrouded in mystery. Raja's body was discovered in a ravine on June 2, yet Sonam remains missing. Adding a twist to the tale, local guide Albert PD in the Mavalakhiat area asserts he spotted them with three unknown men. They were trekking together and climbing 3,000 steps.

According to the guide, these men were ahead, while Sonam followed behind. The conversation in Hindi was lost on him due to his understanding of only Khasi and English.

The guide also revealed that a day prior, on May 22, he had offered his services for the Nongriat Trek, which the couple declined, citing an existing booking with another guide. They later learned they had hired Bha Wansai and stayed overnight at Shipara Homestay. However, no guide accompanied them during their ascent on May 23.

Vivek Siem, SP of the East Khasi Hills, described the challenging terrain, with adverse weather hampering the search efforts. Despite heavy rain, fog, and low visibility, teams persistently work, employing sniffer dogs, drones, and rescue gadgets. A special investigation team led by the SP, consisting of four DSPs, is formed along with SDRF, NDRF, and local volunteers aiding the search.

The lack of CCTV in Mavalakhiat’s parking and absence of vehicle logs has been noted. Villagers have decided to log numbers and visitor details to aid future investigations. This mystery highlights concerns over tourist safety, guidance systems, and the Meghalaya police's response, underscoring the urgency of resolving this case.
