This girl hailed from a village in Beed district's Wadwani tehsil. Her father was a farmer and her mother a homemaker. The family wasn’t financially strong, but the daughter had big dreams - to become a doctor. Her farmer father even took a loan of 300,000 rupees to fund her MBBS degree. The daughter worked hard, passed her exams, and joined government services. Her posting was at the Phaltan sub-district hospital in Satara district. It was a source of pride for the family. She was a girl from the village who made her name as a doctor, but now she has become a casualty of the system.

Unfulfilled Career Aspirations

The dream for this doctor daughter was to do MD and advance in the medical field. As per her family, she was preparing for it. But she was frequently assigned postmortem duties at her workplace. The family alleged that the hospital administration deliberately gave her autopsy duties. Even political pressures were placed on her to alter medical reports. The family claims that the doctor daughter complained multiple times.

The suicide note named two individuals: Sub-Inspector Gopal Badne and software engineer Prashant Banker, the son of her landlord. In her note, she wrote that Gopal Badne sexually abused her multiple times over four months. He threatened her. Prashant Banker mentally harassed her. Prashant Banker faces charges of mentally harassing the victim and provoking her suicide. He appeared in the Satara Court on Saturday, where he was given a four-day police custody remand. The police comments that Prashant Banker is the son of the landlord at whose house the doctor stayed. The doctor called Prashant before her suicide.

Meanwhile, her final rites were performed on Friday night at her ancestral place in Wadwani tehsil, Beed. Her family demanded capital punishment for the accused. A relative alleged that the victim had complained about harassment multiple times, but her complaints went unaddressed.

Another relative claimed that at the sub-district hospital where she worked, the victim was pressured to alter medical reports. The relative said that political figures from Phaltan frequently asked her to change medical records, as she routinely handled postmortem duties. She had lodged multiple complaints against PSI (named in the note), but her grievances went unheeded.
