Evicting a tenant is becoming a headache for many landlords, especially when the tenant refuses to pay rent and yet declines to vacate. Recently, a case surfaced on Reddit where a Karnataka landlord shared his plight. He wrote, “I'm in a big mess with a tenant who hasn't paid rent for the past year. The case has gone to court, but the tenant rarely shows up for hearings and continuously delays the proceedings. Now, he's asking for ₹3.5 lakh to vacate the premises. I've already lost a year’s rent and a considerable amount of time. It feels so wrong to pay to have my own property vacated.”

The Post Goes Viral on Social Media
After the post went viral, several Reddit users expressed sympathy and offered legal advice. Many expressed disbelief and frustration over the situation. One user commented, “You let the tenant stay rent-free for an entire year? That's partly on you. But now, the best course is to legally evict them. Call the police and have them removed.” Another shared, “Hey, I'm a lawyer based in Delhi. Since the matter is already in court, avoid taking any unlawful steps to force the tenant out. Where are you based?”
To which the Reddit user replied, “I reside in Karnataka.” A third person suggested, “Do not bow to their demands. Keep pushing the case in court. The law will be on your side.” Some shared personal experiences, with one user saying, “I faced a similar issue where a tenant refused to leave for two years. Numerous hearings took place, but ultimately the court ordered eviction.”
