U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the termination of all trade talks with Canada. He accused Canada of attempting to influence American judicial decisions against U.S. tariffs by running a strategic advertisement. Trump labeled this act as deceitful and offensive, leading to his decision to end all trade negotiations with Canada.

In his latest social media post, Trump stated, “Canada cheated and got caught. They falsely portrayed President Ronald Reagan as hating tariffs, while in reality, he supported them. This ad was solely crafted to impact the decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court.”

This situation is tied to a pending legal case set for a November 5 court hearing, concerning the legality of Trump’s global tariff policy.

Trump further claimed that Canada has long manipulated tariffs, charging American farmers up to 400% more. He made it clear that Canada and others could no longer exploit the U.S. economy. Trump thanked the Ronald Reagan Foundation for highlighting this deceit.

This controversy emerged when Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced his intentions to expand Canada’s export policy beyond the U.S., finding Trump’s tariffs to be a threat.

Trump stated that Canada attempted to influence U.S. judicial decisions against tariffs through an ad. This is related to a pending case, with a court hearing on November 5 concerning the legality of Trump's global tariff policy.

Trump Announces End of Trade Talks

Earlier, Trump asserted, “Tariffs are crucial for U.S. national security and the economy. Following Canada’s offensive conduct, all trade talks with Canada are henceforth terminated.”

The Trump Administration has imposed a 35% tax on several Canadian imports, targeting key sectors like automobile and steel manufacturing. This has notably impacted Ontario.

What's in Canada’s Advertisement?

Reports reveal that Ontario’s provincial government issued this ad, using an edited version of Reagan’s 1987 radio speech. In it, he said, "When someone suggests 'Let’s place tariffs on foreign imports,' it might seem patriotic, but only temporarily." The ad further insinuated that such trade barriers eventually harm every American worker and consumer.

Reagan Foundation Questioned the Ad

Previously, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute stated on Twitter that Ontario misrepresented the ‘1987 Presidential Radio Address to the Nation on Free and Fair Trade’ and edited it without permission. They are reviewing legal avenues and inviting the public to watch the original video.

Dispute Intensified Ahead of USMCA Review

Notably, this dispute surfaces ahead of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) review between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Trump highlighted that the ad depicted his tariffs as affecting Canada. Ontario Premier Doug Ford shared the ad link on social media, stating, “Ontario’s new American advertising campaign has now begun.”
