Actress Achala Sachdev, who played the grandmother in ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, passed away on April 30, 2012, at a hospital in Pune. It was reported that she had fallen in the kitchen, which worsened her condition. Achala Sachdev's husband, Clifford Douglas Peters, had passed away earlier in 2002. After his death, Achala lived alone for about 12 years near Pune Club in Konark Estate Apartments. She was deeply affected by her husband's passing.
