Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has been issued an advisory by the Election Commission, urging him to exercise greater caution in his statements. The Commission, after considering the Delhi High Court's orders and Gandhi's response among other facts, has advised the Congress leader to maintain a more vigilant stance in the future.

In response to this advisory, the Congress party has fiercely cornered the Election Commission. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh accused the Commission of not directing questions at the Prime Minister, asking on whose directives the supposedly impartial institution operates. 'They should have the courage to issue notices to Modi and Amit Shah as well. Why only Rahul Gandhi?' he questioned.

Moreover, Congress MP Digvijaya Singh attacked the Commission, stating that its conduct is completely biased. 'When Modi was blatantly asking for votes in the name of Bajrang Bali during Karnataka elections, and using the Pulwama martyrs’ names for votes, what was the EC doing? The Election Commission remains silent on BJP's remarks,' Singh said.

Ramesh and Singh have also targeted PM Modi's Kashmir visit, questioning the promised state status for Jammu and Kashmir and when the elections would be held. 'Modi is an EVENT MANAGER, turning everything into an event,' Singh remarked, implying forceful gathering of people for the PM's public meetings.

According to sources, the issuance of this advisory by the Election Commission followed BJP's complaint regarding Rahul Gandhi's use of words like 'jinx' and 'pickpocket' for PM Modi. Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Commission had issued a show-cause notice to Gandhi on November 23, 2023. Following his response, the advisory has been released, also aligning with the Delhi High Court's orders from the previous December, urging Rahul Gandhi to comply properly with the recent advisory issued for star campaigners and political leaders during the election campaign.
