The noose is tightening around Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. He has been interrogated for 100 hours over the past 10 days. Following this, a case of financial irregularities has been lodged against him by the CBI. Acting on the directive of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI took over the investigation from the SIT formed by the West Bengal government. On Saturday, they conducted a polygraph test on Ghosh, which is expected to reveal the truth.

The High Court first handed over the investigation of the rape and murder case of a lady doctor to the CBI. Subsequently, to ensure a comprehensive and fair investigation, the probe into Ghosh's financial irregularities was also assigned to the CBI. Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj stated, "This court directs that the investigation be handed over to the CBI due to the serious allegations involved in this case."

The court order for a CBI probe was based on a petition by former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali, who had accused Ghosh of financial irregularities during his tenure and demanded an ED investigation. Ali had filed a complaint with the West Bengal police last July but did not receive justice.

Akhtar Ali provided documented evidence supporting claims of widespread corruption, misuse of government funds, sale of hazardous biomedical waste, and transfer of officials for monetary gain. These activities had serious implications for public health and safety and represented a misuse of public funds.

Sandeep Ghosh has been under fire since the body of the lady doctor was found at the medical college on August 8-9. Following pressure from junior doctors, the Mamata government removed him from his position and ordered an investigation. The CBI, after taking over the case, has been questioning him continuously. They are also examining his suspicious role in the case.

According to sources, Ghosh was asked if he insisted on conducting the post-mortem of the deceased at RG Kar Medical College and if he did not allow it elsewhere. The CBI searched his car at the college premises and interrogated his driver. Forensic experts examined the car to gather details about its movements.

Previously, the Supreme Court had also questioned Sandeep Ghosh's conduct, criticizing the hospital administration and the government. Allegations against him include trafficking of unclaimed bodies, sale of biomedical waste, irregularities in appointments, and charges of commissions and bribery. Further, it is alleged that Ghosh was involved in various unethical activities, including intentionally failing students to solicit bribes for passing them.

Akhtar Ali claimed that Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the barbaric act against the lady doctor, was part of Ghosh’s security detail, working as his bouncer. This direct link between Roy and Ghosh deepens the case. In an interview, Akhtar Ali stated, "When I saw Sanjay Roy's picture after the barbaric act, I remembered that he was one of Sandeep Ghosh's bouncers. I had seen him with Ghosh. When I was working there, no one was allowed to access the seminar room or nursing staff area at night. There was security at every point. CCTV cameras were installed."
