The presence of a black bear in Srinagar over the past two days has spread fear among the people. Following its movement near Nigeen Lake, the Wildlife Department has initiated a search operation. Previously, the bear was also spotted at NIT Srinagar, Kashmir University, and the SKIMS hospital premises, triggering an alert across the region.
The Wildlife Department has called in expert teams from the Central Kashmir Division as well as other districts. Drones are continuously monitoring the area to track the bear's location. Tranquilizer guns, short firearms, and emergency teams are deployed onsite. Ambulances and veterinary teams are ready for any injuries or accidents.
Central Kashmir Wildlife Warden Parvez Ahmad Wani visited the scene to coordinate with the teams. He stated that both capturing the bear safely and ensuring human safety are top priorities.

Chasing Bears is Dangerous, Avoid Making Videos
Officials noted that some people are trying to chase the bear to make videos, which is extremely dangerous. The department has advised against taking such risks and urged everyone to follow safety protocols. Alertness is being maintained throughout Srinagar. As the bear remains at large, a multi-team operation is ongoing to capture it safely. Citizens are advised to stay indoors, avoid crowded areas and parks, and not spread rumors.
