Indigo Airlines is facing significant disruption due to sudden staffing shortages and technical management issues, inconveniencing thousands of travelers nationwide. At major airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Indore, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram, flights are either being canceled or severely delayed, leading to overcrowded terminals. Passengers have expressed their frustration, with social media amplifying the impact.

Indigo's widespread fleet and connectivity have contributed to the widespread impact. Late-night advisories were issued by airport authorities and Indigo, but as of midnight, the situation was still resolving.

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi issued a passenger advisory at night. They informed passengers that Indigo's flight services are gradually returning to normal. Travelers are requested to check their flight status before leaving home.

IGI also recommended visiting their website and contacting airlines directly. This advisory was shared on social media via Delhi Airport's official X handle, with terminals remaining crowded late into the night as passengers awaited further updates.

The situation at Ahmedabad Airport was among the most severe. According to official sources, between 12 AM and 6 AM, 7 arrival flights were canceled, along with 12 departures. This affected a total of 19 Indigo flights, causing distress both inside and outside the airport premises. Many travelers reported not receiving timely updates from the airline.

An internal communication from Indigo surfaced, revealing that on December 6, 2025, the airline's Duty Manager requested the CISF Assistant Commandant to restrict entry to the terminal for passengers of canceled flights, aiming to manage the increasing terminal crowding.

A total of 29 flights set for various city departures were canceled due to operational reasons. This included major routes departing from Chennai to destinations like Port Blair, Ahmedabad, Goa, Lucknow, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Patna, Pune, and Kochi. Scheduled times for these canceled flights spanned from 10:30 AM to 11:15 PM, disrupting virtually the entire day’s schedule.

In Mumbai, the situation turned complex as a surge in cancellations and delays resulted in crowds that compelled airport authorities to arrange temporary seating. Seen sitting on the floor were children, seniors, tourists, and business travelers awaiting their flights.

The crisis in Indigo continues with a total of 8 flight cancellations, including 7 Indigo flights and 1 Air India flight. The Air India flight to Delhi scheduled at 3:30 PM was canceled. The Indigo flights canceled include Delhi flight 6E 6737 at 10:05 AM, 6E 758 at 2:35 PM, 6E 2292 at 4:20 PM, and Kochi's flight 6E 435 at 4:50 PM.

With difficulty normalizing Indigo operations, many cities faced passengers enduring long waits. In Kochi, dozens lined up at boarding gates. Passengers in Indore noted discrepancies between the airline's app and counter updates. In Jaipur and Ahmedabad, families shared their grievances on social media, highlighting the challenges for passengers with connecting flights.

Thiruvananthapuram Airport has released data on flight cancellations, indicating 11 Domestic Arrivals and Departures, along with 2 International Arrivals and Departures. So far, 3 Domestic Arrivals and 3 Domestic Departures have been canceled.

A sudden large number of staff absences, coordination issues among the operational team, and crew availability contributed to the flight disruptions at Indigo. Crew members trapped in sequencing caused a domino effect of cancellations.

Meanwhile, actor Sonu Sood issued a message on X (formerly Twitter), urging people to remember the faces of those trying to rectify the delays. He encouraged passengers to treat Indigo staff kindly, acknowledging they're also impacted by the situation.

Due to the cancellations, many resorted to traveling by train. The Railway Ministry swiftly added 116 additional coaches to 37 premium trains, effective from December 6. The most substantial augmentations occurred in 18 trains, with chair car and sleeper class coaches newly attached.

Other trains included 3AC and chair car coaches. Notably, additional 2AC coaches were allotted between December 6-10 to Rajendra Nagar-New Delhi (12309), and Bhubaneswar-New Delhi received 2AC for 5 trips. Additional sleeper class coaches were added from December 7-8 in three major trains, and enhancements continued between December 6-13 with 3AC and sleeper class expansion.

Four special trains were also introduced, including Gorakhpur-Anand Vihar Terminal Special, New Delhi-Captain Tushar Mahajan Vande Bharat Special, New Delhi-Mumbai Central Superfast Special, and Hazrat Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram Superfast Special.
