A tragic accident has emerged from Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. A woman who went to the forest to cut grass met a sudden fate after spotting a bear camouflaged in the bushes. In her attempt to flee, she slipped and plummeted into a deep ravine, resulting in her on-the-spot demise.

According to the agency, the incident occurred in a village within Uttarkashi district. Twenty-seven-year-old Ambika Aswal was cutting grass in the forest along with other women of the village. Villagers report that the women were in the upper part of the forest when a bear suddenly appeared from the bushes. Startled, the women scrambled in different directions to save themselves.

During this chaos, Ambika lost her footing and tumbled down a steep mountain slope, sustaining severe injuries as she fell several feet. The terrified women rushed back to the village to inform the villagers about the incident.

The villagers sprang into action, hurrying to the forest to search for Ambika. They found her unconscious some distance away. Despite their efforts to bring her back down, she had succumbed to her injuries by then. The villagers informed the local administration and the forest department of the situation.

Upon receiving the news, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Uttarkashi, D.P. Baluni, dispatched the ranger and concerned officials to the site for investigation. He stated that if the inquiry confirms the incident resulted from the bear's presence, government compensation and additional aid would be provided to the family.

Panchayat member Akash Negi revealed that, over recent times, there has been an uptick in activities of wild animals such as bears and leopards in the region. The villagers have frequently voiced their concerns to the forest department, yet no significant action has been taken. This absence of intervention has instilled fear among the villagers, as routine activities like grass cutting or wood gathering have turned perilous.
