India's star wicketkeeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant, has been injured yet again. He first got injured at Lord's during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, and now, once more at Manchester by a delivery from Chris Woakes.

He returned to the pavilion, retired hurt. The question is, why is Pant facing such difficulties frequently? Ex-coach of Delhi Capitals and Pant's mentor, Ricky Ponting, has made a startling revelation.

The fourth Test between India and England began on Wednesday, July 23, at Old Trafford in Manchester. England leads the 5-match series 2-1, making this Test critically important.

 During the Test, on Chris Woakes' fourth ball of the 68th over (67.4), Pant attempted a reverse sweep but ended up striking his right leg. Woakes and the England team appealed for an LBW against Pant, but the umpire declined. English captain Ben Stokes opted for a DRS, but since the ball appeared to have made contact with the bat, the on-field umpire upheld his decision.

While wincing in pain, Pant received treatment on the field for his foot after the ball hit him. During the drinks break, he removed his shoe revealing evident swelling on the outer right side of his foot. He seemed to be in notable discomfort on the field. Later, he was taken off, retiring hurt (37 runs off 48 balls), limping on one leg with assistance from the physio. Post this, Ravindra Jadeja took to batting.

Australian cricket legend, Ricky Ponting, expressed concern over Pant's injury. He noted that Pant's inability to plant his foot properly is concerning.

Ponting recalled his own metatarsal (foot bone) injury, which are small and fragile bones. He said, "Pant could barely keep his foot on the ground. Immediate swelling is the most concerning point. I've suffered similar injuries and these bones are delicate. It's not a good sign that Pant can't bear weight on his foot."

Meanwhile, the BCCI has confirmed that 27-year-old Pant has been taken for scans, and the medical team is closely monitoring him. He scored 37 runs from 48 balls before retiring hurt. Ravindra Jadeja replaced him in batting. By the end of Day 1, India had scored 264/4 with Jadeja (19*) and Shardul Thakur (19*) remaining unbeaten.
