As the Parliament's monsoon session began on Monday, Jagdeep Dhankhar tendered his unexpected resignation from the Vice President position, addressing a heartfelt letter to President Droupadi Murmu, citing health concerns. According to insiders, Dhankhar is set to vacate the Vice President's residence soon, having already started packing his belongings.
Packing Began Immediately After Resignation
Sources revealed that Dhankhar started packing as soon as he resigned from the Vice President's office, even before his resignation was officially accepted the next day. His resignation has stirred political discussions, with the opposition accusing pressure from the government as the reason for his step down.

Reports indicate that some political leaders from the opposition sought meetings with Jagdeep Dhankhar but did not get an appointment. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and NCP's Sharad Pawar were among those who requested time to meet Dhankhar but were unsuccessful.

Will He Be Allotted a Government Bungalow?
According to protocol, a Type-8 government bungalow is usually allotted to the Vice President after their term ends. Since Dhankhar resigned before completing his term, which was supposed to end in 2027, it remains to be seen whether the government will provide the bungalow or if he will shift to a private residence.
Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation surprised many, as his Monday schedule appeared regular. He administered oaths to nominated Rajya Sabha members and chaired the Business Advisory Committee meeting around midday. As the Vice President, he also presided over the upper house of the Parliament.

Later, he chaired another BAC meeting around 4:30 PM and met Congress leaders, including Jairam Ramesh. Ramesh pointed out that something significant occurred between 1 PM and 4 PM that resulted in Dhankhar's resignation. He mentioned that Dhankhar was meticulous about standards and regulations, believing they were being repeatedly violated.
So far, health reasons are considered the primary reason for his resignation, as Dhankhar himself stated. Announcing his resignation, he said, 'Prioritizing health and following medical advice, I hereby resign as Vice President of India with immediate effect under Article 67(A) of the Constitution.'
Facilities for Dhankhar
Even after leaving office, former Vice Presidents are entitled to several benefits. Jagdeep Dhankhar will receive a pension, accommodation, and other privileges. Post his tenure, he will be provided with staff, including two assistants and two orderlies. This staff assists him with official work. He also gets free medical advice, hospital admission, medications, tests, and surgeries if necessary.
A doctor is assigned for routine check-ups of former Vice Presidents. Additionally, Rs. 60,000 is allocated for office expenses while the government covers the staff's salaries. The electricity and water bills for their official residence are waived. Former Vice Presidents can travel anywhere in the country with a partner or a relative by air or rail for free.
