Regarding Greenland, US President Donald Trump has toughened both his language and intent. Trump openly declared that if the US cannot acquire Greenland the 'easy way,' it will adopt the 'hard way.' His argument is that American control over Greenland is crucial to curtail Russian and Chinese influence in the Arctic region.

Trump, in conversation with reporters, expressed his preference for a smooth deal. 'I want this transaction to be easy,' he said. 'But if it doesn't work out easily, we will take a harder approach.' He graciously added about Denmark, 'I am a fan of Denmark, they've been very nice to me.'

Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, has consistently stated it's not for sale. Meanwhile, on Thursday, senior diplomats from Greenland and Denmark met with White House officials, reportedly driven by increased concern over America's intentions.

'We Are Going to Do Something...'

When questioned if the US plans to gain support by directly paying Greenlanders, Trump stated, 'I am not discussing any monetary negotiations for Greenland right now. That may come later. But for now, we're going to do something, whether they like it or not.'

Referencing national security, Trump remarked that if the US does not act, Russia or China might seize control of Greenland. 'If we don't take action, Russia or China could occupy Greenland. We won't let them become our neighbors.'

Dismissing Denmark's historical claims, Trump asserted, 'Just because a ship landed there 500 years ago doesn't mean that land belongs to them. Our ships have frequently been there too.'

'Activities Around Greenland...'

Trump alleged increasing Russian and Chinese naval activities around Greenland, including destroyers and submarines. 'We won't allow Russia or China to seize Greenland. Thus, we will do something with Greenland, either amicably or through tougher means.'

When asked why the US seeks ownership despite having a military presence, Trump reasoned, 'Property ownership is paramount for proper defense. Leasing doesn't offer the protection that ownership does.'

Referring to the Iran Nuclear Deal from Obama's era, Trump criticized short-term agreements, stating, 'No country can rely on a nine or a hundred-year pact. You secure what you own.'

However, Trump mentioned his fondness for Russia and China, maintaining good relations with their leaders, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. Yet, he reiterated, 'I do not want them as neighbors in Greenland. That is not happening.'
