The Surat Crime Branch has achieved a major success by arresting the infamous Bhopal criminal Raju Irani, also known as Abid Ali or Rahman Dacoit, before he could carry out any significant crimes. This criminal has long posed a challenge to police forces across several states, being wanted in over six states throughout the country.

Recently, the character 'Rahman Dacoit' from the Bollywood movie 'Dhruvhandhar' has gained attention, yet the Rahman Dacoit apprehended by Surat Police is a genuinely dangerous criminal, not just a silver screen character. According to Surat Police, the suspect originally hails from the Aman Colony in the ‘Irani Dera’ area of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Action Based on Confidential Tip-off

DCP Bhavesh Rozia informed the media that Inspector J.N. Goswami and his team received a confidential tip-off that the notorious criminal Raju Irani from Bhopal was in Surat intending to commit a crime. Acting swiftly on this information, the team successfully apprehended him.

The interrogation unveiled critical insights about Raju Irani, revealing him as the linchpin of the 'Irani Dera' area in Bhopal, with a network spanning over 12 states.

A Network Expanding Over Several States

Police indicate that Raju Irani, along with his brother Zakir Ali, orchestrated an extensive gang that operates across more than 14 states. Despite being wanted in over six states, his organized methodology allowed gangs to conduct crimes strategically across various regions, deciding who went where and did what.

Seniors Were Prime Targets

This gang thrived by targeting senior citizens, masquerading as police or CBI officers to seize jewelry, or setting up roadblocks to rob cash and valuables under the guise of vehicle checking.

Additionally, their activities included land grabbing, carrying weapons, and trafficking stolen goods. Over ten serious criminal charges stand against the suspect.

On the Run after Bhopal Sweep

In the last week of December, Bhopal Police launched a comprehensive sweep in the Irani Dera area, investigating over 150 individuals, capturing 10 women and 34 men, prompting Raju Irani to go on the run.

Known for their lavish lifestyles funded by crime, Raju Irani and his brother are famed for owning luxury cars, expensive bikes, and even horses.

Complicit in Heinous Crimes

This gang's ruthlessness came to light when, suspecting a person named 'Sabir Ali' of informing authorities, they attempted to set him ablaze—confirming their involvement in heinous crimes. Several gang members have been caught with weapons.

DCP Bhavesh Rozia shared that after roaming across many states, including Maharashtra, Raju eventually landed in Surat, planning to target banks and other locations until the Crime Branch caught up with him. Intensive interrogation of the suspect continues as further actions are underway.
