In the village of Barkheda within Syohara area of Bijnor, UP, a woman and her husband were brutally beaten. The young woman married without her family's consent. Five months later, when she returned to the village with her husband to celebrate Diwali, her family attacked them ruthlessly in public, leaving them seriously injured and threatening their lives.
The couple had been friends since childhood and were in love from a young age. When the man got a job away from the village, the woman decided to marry him and live together. Although his family accepted the relationship, her family opposed the marriage. Despite their protests, they legally married on May 30, 2024, and lived separately from her family.

Returning for Diwali turned from a joyful occasion into violence for the couple when her family publicly assaulted them at a crossroads. A large crowd gathered but nobody intervened. A villager filmed the entire event and the video has since gone viral on social media.
Police Complaint Filed, Protection Requested
Injured and distressed, the couple reported the entire incident to Bijnor's Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Jha, seeking protection. They showed the video and expressed their concerns, accusing Syohara police of registering only minor charges in the case.
SP Abhishek Jha, taking serious note of the incident, ordered immediate action from the station chief. The woman reported additional threats from her family to her and her in-laws, seeking urgent protection for them.
SP Jha confirmed via phone that the victim visited his office, shared her story, and has instructed the immediate arrest of the accused and stringent action against them.
