It is highly likely that Shubman Gill will miss the remainder of the match. After the play concluded on November 15, he was transported to Woodlands Hospital on a stretcher. Hospital sources confirm that he has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with necessary steps in place for his treatment. His scans and MRI tests have been completed. Due to pain in his neck and surrounding areas, he is under ICU observation. Fortunately, his condition is stable.
During the second day of the Test match, while executing a sweep shot against South African spinner Simon Harmer, Gill experienced immediate discomfort. Post-shot, Gill was seen clutching his left neck area, calling for the physiotherapist.
The team management decided to withdraw Gill from the field immediately following preliminary treatment. The pain immobilized his neck, making movement difficult. He was treated using a neck collar in the dressing room, yet his discomfort persisted. As he was transported to the hospital, Shubman was equipped with a cervical collar. Further examinations are underway to assess the severity of his injury.

Post-game analysis met with guarded responses, as India's bowling coach, Morne Morkel, refrained from direct comments on Gill's condition. He stated, 'We first need to understand the cause of his neck stiffness. It might just be an aftermath of a poor night's sleep, not necessarily related to workload.'
Gill began his innings with flair, effortlessly playing the initial balls from Simon Harmer before executing a splendid sweep over square leg for a boundary. However, discomfort followed shortly after, leading to his departure.
Rishabh Pant stepped in to bat post Gill’s retirement. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has communicated that Gill is under medical supervision for his neck issue. Despite the skipper's injury, the Indian team maintains a strong position.
