The rising crimes against women are no secret, from domestic violence to rape and murder, news of such atrocities surfaces daily. Recently, similar cases have emerged from Kolkata in West Bengal and Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. These incidents of rape and murder have shocked the nation, and one common thread in both cases is the presence of a psychopathic killer.
Currently in police custody, the accused Sanjay Roy from Kolkata, who raped and murdered a 31-year-old trainee doctor within the hospital premises, has confessed to his crime. Despite his meticulous planning, a single mistake led to his capture.
What Happened Late Night on August 8...
On the morning of August 9, the body of a trainee doctor was found at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, creating an uproar. Continuous revelations about the accused, Sanjay Roy, have surfaced. It is said that Roy was addicted to watching adult content while drinking alcohol and frequently came and went from the hospital unnoticed.
On the night of August 8, at around 11 PM, Roy went behind the hospital to drink alcohol. While drinking, he watched an adult film. Later that night, he entered the Chest Medicine Department of the hospital through the back door. The trainee doctor had gone to the seminar hall after dining with her juniors at around 2 AM. CCTV footage shows the accused entering the seminar hall at around 4 AM and exiting around 4:45 AM.

The Dark Unveiling of the Accused
Investigations revealed that Sanjay Roy had four marriages and was addicted to pornography and alcohol. His behavior had driven three of his wives away, and his fourth wife had succumbed to cancer last year.

He was heavily intoxicated when the police arrested him. His phone was filled with adult videos, indicating his disturbed mindset.
The Psychopath of Bareilly
The revelations about serial killer Kuldeep Kumar Gangwar from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, have left everyone in shock. Gangwar targeted middle-aged women, proposing to them and killing them if they refused. He would strangle his victims first and then tie a knot around their necks with a sari to ensure their demise.
The accused confessed to killing six women. He would lurk in secluded areas, selecting a lone woman as his prey. Gangwar worked meticulously, ensuring no witnesses saw him following his victim. He aborted his attacks if he encountered anyone.
All his murders were carried out in sugarcane fields where visibility dropped within five to ten meters inside, making it an ideal location for his crimes.

The accused Gangwar is charged with nine murders but has confessed to six. Police took him to the crime scene to recreate the murders with the help of a dummy, which left everyone amazed.
Why Did the Killer Despise Elderly Women?
The police revealed that Gangwar was addicted to substances. His life was chaotic, beginning with the death of his mother and the arrival of his stepmother, who allegedly tormented him, leading to his hatred towards women. His marriage was also on the rocks.
Gangwar hails from Bakaraganj village in the Nawabganj police station area. He has two sisters, and his mother is deceased. His father married another woman during his first wife's lifetime and often beat his first wife at the second wife's behest, fueling Gangwar's anger.
He married in 2014 but failed to have a normal relationship with his wife. His violent behavior drove her away a few years ago.
No Mobile for the Serial Killer
Gangwar didn't use mobile phones or vehicles. He traveled on foot and took some belonging from each victim as a trophy. After killing his first victim, Anita Devi, he took her voter ID, red lipstick, a red bindi, and part of her blouse. He took various items like a sickle, Aadhar card, or cash from subsequent victims.

Operation Search was launched to capture the psychopathic killer, with 22 teams operating in a 25-kilometer area. Over 600 new cameras were installed, and data from 1,500 old CCTV cameras were utilized. Surveillance of over a hundred thousand phones was conducted, leading to Gangwar's arrest.

What Goes on in a Psychopath's Mind?
Understanding a psychopath's mindset is a challenge. Their thoughts and emotions are complex and contradictory. Behavioral experts have long studied this to gain better insights into their mental state.
Psychopaths usually display a distorted personality, lacking empathy and sensitivity. They justify their actions with various excuses, considering violence and murder as mere games, feeling no guilt.
Control and power are significant to them. This desire for dominance makes them dangerous as they will go to any lengths to achieve their goals. Many psychopaths find expressing their distress or dissatisfaction difficult, leading them to feel isolated and different from society, with violence as their only outlet.
Research shows that many psychopaths have undergone significant mental or physical trauma in their past, leading them down a distorted path.
