Former General Secretary of Samajwadi Party, Swami Prasad Maurya's troubles have intensified. The UP MP-MLA court has ordered the registration of an FIR against him. In essence, Maurya had made a controversial statement against Hindu gods, prompting the court to instruct a thorough investigation and subsequent legal action for the alleged hurt caused to Hindu sentiments.
According to news agency PTI, the Special Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ambreesh Kumar Srivastava mandated an inquiry against the former SP General Secretary Maurya. Complainant Ragini Rastogi alleges that a statement by Maurya, published in newspapers on November 15 last year, inflicted emotional distress upon millions of Hindus.
As per her complaint, Maurya posted on social media platform X, questioning the portrayal of a Hindu goddess with multiple arms when people of different faiths are born with only two. The complainant accused Maurya of having made similar hurtful remarks on various occasions.
Maurya resigned from the primary membership of the Samajwadi Party about a month ago. Prior to this, he had also given up his post as the party's General Secretary, as well as his membership in the Vidhan Parishad. Subsequently, he founded a new party named Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party.
Maurya had held senior positions in the BSP for 20 years and served as a cabinet minister in the Mayawati government. Before the 2017 elections, he switched allegiance and joined the BJP. Upon the formation of the Yogi Adityanath-led government, he was appointed as a cabinet minister. However, just after five years, he parted ways with the BJP and joined the SP ahead of the 2022 elections.
