Shocking details emerge from Kozhikode district in Kerala, where a husband ruthlessly attacked his newlywed wife and attempted, yet failed, to take her life. Following the attack, the husband fled the crime scene. In a stunning twist, Interpol has issued a Blue Corner notice against this assaulting husband who has since escaped abroad.
The Accused Fled to Germany Post-Attack
The senior police officer of Kozhikode city confirmed the issuance of a Blue Corner notice, effective Thursday. The officer explained that the accused, an NRI, who also works there, has fled to Germany post-incident.
Request Made Through Foreign Ministry
The police officer provided additional details, indicating that the police had made a request to Interpol through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue a Blue Corner notice, which Interpol granted.
Understanding the Blue Corner Notice
Blue Corner Notices are issued by Interpol to collect additional information about a person’s identity, location, or activities in relation to a crime. This notice serves as a lookout circular.
Lookout Circular Issued by the Police
The Lookout Circular was issued against the accused Rahul P. Gopal. Following serious allegations raised by the bride and her family, which were broadcasted on some TV channels, the police released the circular.
Allegations of Dowry Demand Leading to Violence
The victim accused her husband of starting dowry demands just a week after their May 5th wedding. This led to a dispute and a cruel assault by the accused Rahul, who also attempted to murder her. The bride’s in-laws, however, have denied these allegations.
In-Laws Deny Allegations
Rahul P. Gopal's mother claimed that their daughter-in-law refused to stay in the marital home, which led to arguments and subsequently a fight. She asserted that they never demanded dowry as they didn’t need it.
Commissions Demand Report
Beyond police action, the Kerala Women's Commission (KWC) and the State Human Rights Commission are now involved, requesting reports from the investigating agency. The KWC had initially criticized the police for not taking the woman's complaint seriously.
Allegation of Strangulation with Charging Cable
The woman had alleged that the police at Pantheerankavu had not registered an attempt to murder case, despite her complaint clearly stating that her husband had tried strangling her with a mobile phone charging cable.
New Investigation Team Formed Amid Escalating Case
She and her family also accused the police of attempting to settle the case. Following intense criticism of the police from all quarters, including the Congress-led UDF opposition, a new investigation team was formed to take over the case.
