Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan dismissed Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s claim that Pakistani forces shot down six Indian aircraft, including four Rafales.
Following the CDS's statement, Mallikarjun Kharge took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to question the Modi government's actions.
What Did Mallikarjun Kharge Say?
Mallikarjun Kharge voiced that the interview by CDS Chauhan in Singapore has prompted crucial questions that need asking.
Such inquiries can only be addressed if a special session of Parliament is convened. The Modi government has misled the nation, but now the truth gradually emerges.
He further stated that Indian Air Force personnel put their lives on the line while battling adversaries. Although there was some damage, our troops remained unharmed. According to the CDS interview, a mistake was corrected, reapplied, and days later, our aircraft launched long-range assaults on the enemy.
Kharge demanded a broad analysis of defense preparations through an independent expert committee, akin to the ‘Kargil Review Committee.’
Regarding Ceasefire, Congress Encircles Modi Government Again
Mallikarjun Kharge noted that the ceasefire talks, reiterated by U.S. President Donald Trump, if realized, would violate the Shimla Agreement (1972).
He asserted that instead of clarifying Trump's statement, the Indian government, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remained silent. Transparency on this issue is lacking from the government. Even the U.S. Commerce Secretary confirmed the ceasefire in a court affidavit.
Kharge remarked - Prime Minister Modi is engrossed in electioneering, personally taking credit for the valor of our forces, while shying away from clearly defining ceasefire terms.
Jairam Ramesh Calls Modi Government’s 11-Year Tenure an Unannounced Emergency
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh declared Modi government's 11-year rule as an 'unannounced emergency.' He attacked the government on X, citing the CDS's interview.
He shared, 'The ongoing unannounced emergency for 11 years is an extraordinary situation where the Prime Minister neither presides over an all-party meeting nor takes Parliament into confidence. Yet the nation learns of Operation Sindur's first phase through a Singapore interview by the CDS. Could Prime Minister not have engaged opposition leaders beforehand?'
What Did RJD Leader Manoj Kumar Jha Say?
RJD leader Manoj Kumar Jha posted on X, 'Numerous questions are arising in light of the CDS’s interview. Meanwhile, the U.S. President has potentially made a dozen similar statements to which countrywide sentiments get impacted. Can a special Parliamentary session be convened to engage in a unified dialogue? The mutual venom spitting among various troll armies on social media cannot replace parliamentary practices and traditions.'
