The northeastern states of Assam, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur are facing severe devastation due to torrential monsoon rains. Over the past two days, relentless rainfall has led to sudden floods and landslides, resulting in the tragic loss of 25 lives. Rapid relief and rescue operations are underway.

The weather department has warned of continued rainfall, placing the entire region on high alert. Officials reported that persistent rain has triggered widespread disruption, causing both floods and landslides, crippling normal life across the Northeast.

Assam: Tragic Slip Claims Lives of Three Family Members

In Guwahati, Assam's capital, landslides have caused several homes to collapse. Unfortunately, five people have died, including three members from one family. Loose soil on the hills, due to continuous rain, cascaded down, crushing homes. In response, new alerts have been issued by authorities in the area. Additionally, in Golaghat and Lakhimpur districts, floods have claimed the lives of three more individuals.

Arunachal Pradesh: Vehicle Swept Away, 7 Dead

Floods near the Chinese border in Arunachal Pradesh have wreaked havoc. Seven individuals drowned when a vehicle was swept away. In a separate incident, two people lost their lives. The state now counts a total of nine deaths.

Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya: Eight Die in 24 Hours

In the last day, sudden floods and landslides in Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya have resulted in eight deaths. Continuous heavy downpours have been reported by officials.

Manipur: Life in Imphal Grinds to a Halt

Excessive rainfall over the past three days has paralyzed life in Imphal, Manipur's capital. Severe waterlogging is a problem in many parts of the city. Authorities have requested immediate evacuation from areas near the Imphal River and issued flood warnings to the residents.

Weather Alert: More Rain Ahead

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts continuous heavy rain across the Northeast in the coming days. Red and orange alerts have been issued for many parts of Assam, while orange and yellow alerts are active for the rest of the northeastern states.

Assam Sees 17 Districts Affected, Over 78,000 People Struggle

Floods and landslides have affected 17 districts in Assam, impacting more than 78,000 people. Over 1,200 individuals have found refuge in five relief camps across the state. The Lakhimpur district remains heavily afflicted, with over 41,600 people in distress. The Brahmaputra River's water levels in Dibrugarh remain high, submerging lower areas.

Rescue Missions Spearheaded by NDRF and SDRF

In Assam, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), alongside police and fire services, are conducting expedient rescue and relief operations, ensuring everyone's safety.

School Closures and Flight Disruptions

Due to the rain, educational institutions in two districts of Assam were closed on Saturday. At Guwahati airport, high winds and heavy rainfall disrupted flight operations on Friday.

Continuous Relief in Arunachal Pradesh

Relief and rescue efforts continue in Arunachal Pradesh. Damage assessments are in progress, and immediate assistance is being provided to affected families.
