Former RG Kar Hospital principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh is currently detained in Kolkata's Presidency Jail, where the court has remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days. Since Tuesday, Ghosh has been spending his days and nights alone in a cell within Presidency Jail. Once leading a life of luxury and comfort outside, Ghosh now lives like any other common prisoner in the facility. No special amenities or VIP privileges have been granted by the prison authorities.
Which block in Presidency Jail houses Sandeep Ghosh?
According to sources, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh is currently residing in cell number 10 of block 1/10 in Presidency Jail. He is being kept in complete isolation. Other accused in the RG Kar corruption case and his close associates have been placed in different cells of other blocks, adhering to prison rules.
A prison source revealed, "As a common prisoner, he is sleeping on the floor like others. He has been provided with three blankets, sheets, and a pillow." His cell includes a small washroom and bathroom to prevent him from having to leave the cell. According to the prescribed prison menu, he is receiving the same standard meals as other ordinary inmates.
Sandeep Ghosh appears anxious since entering jail
A source from the jail informed AajTak, "Since arriving at the jail, he seems very anxious. It will take some time for him to adapt to the prison environment, which is natural." Given the sensitive nature and significance of the RG Kar Hospital case, special security arrangements have been put in place within the jail. Sources report that a jail guard is stationed outside each cell of the accused in this particular case to ensure their safety. These guards monitor the inmates in three shifts, and 24/7 CCTV surveillance is also being conducted. Security personnel are keeping a close watch on all prisoners through CCTV cameras.
