13 Injured in Russia's 'Winter Strike' on Ukraine Amid Freezing Cold, Blackouts Across Cities

In a major offensive, Russia struck Ukraine's largest cities, Kyiv and Kharkiv, early Saturday. Drone and missile strikes in Kyiv left two people severely injured, while Kharkiv saw 11 people wounded. Ukraine's air force reported over 100 drones were launched at the capital, causing fires and disrupting power and heating systems, escalating tensions significantly.

Early Saturday, Ukraine's capital Kyiv and the second largest city, Kharkiv, were both subjected to Russia's massive aerial assault. According to officials, these drone and missile attacks resulted in at least 13 injuries. Kyiv reported two individuals in critical condition, while Kharkiv reported 11 injured people.

Kyiv's Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, conveyed through Telegram that loud explosions were heard across several districts, which are located on both sides of the Dnipro River. He reported that those injured have been hospitalized with serious conditions.

According to Ukraine's air force, Russia employed both drones and missiles in this assault. Over 100 drones were dispatched over Kyiv. The head of Kyiv's military administration, Timur Tkachenko, stated that drone strikes were recorded in at least three districts, resulting in fires in two of them.

Kyiv Faces Another Overnight Attack

This marks the second major overnight assault on Kyiv since the new year. As a consequence, electricity and heating supplies to hundreds of residential buildings have been disrupted. Emergency services are persistently working to restore normalcy. The alarming fact is that during the attacks, the temperature had dropped to minus 13 degrees Celsius, further compounding challenges for the civilians.

Multiple Strikes on Kharkiv

Meanwhile, Kharkiv, located approximately 30 kilometers from the Russian border, came under targeted attacks once more. Mayor Ihor Terekhov revealed that Russian drone strikes targeted several districts in the city, injuring 11 individuals. Kharkiv has previously been a primary target of Russian offensives.

The persistence of these assaults has further deteriorated the security situation in Ukraine. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and seek secure places immediately upon hearing air raid warnings, as the international community once again focuses on the rising tensions of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
