In any election across the country, one term frequently echoes—'double engine.' Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) promote the 'double engine' government during state elections. Even during the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections, the Aam Aadmi Party, ruling the Union Territory of Delhi, based its campaign on the double-engine concept. However, for the first time, the 'double engine' is used not for a government but for MPs. Rahul Gandhi, the Member of Parliament from the Raebareli seat in Uttar Pradesh and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, has introduced the two MP theory, bringing the double-engine MP into the spotlight.

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi was in Unchahar, part of his parliamentary constituency, Raebareli. While attending a program, he mentioned that Raebareli is perhaps the only constituency in entire India with two MPs—himself and his sister Priyanka. He suggested inviting her as well, noting that she often invites him to Wayanad, and he accompanies. Rahul emphasized that Priyanka also represents Raebareli, urging people to invite her.

He also expressed gratitude towards the citizens and party workers of Raebareli for their support during Lok Sabha elections. Rahul reminisced about the Gandhi family's deep connection with Raebareli, stating that any issues people face should be communicated to him, and he would address them, reinforcing his availability. He stressed that this is not merely a political relationship but a familial bond.

Priyanka Gandhi reacted to Rahul Gandhi’s double MP theory. She shared the video of his statement on the social media platform X, stating that Raebareli is their family, and every command of the family is paramount. Priyanka has actively been engaged in Raebareli for years. Sonia Gandhi was the MP from Raebareli until the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, with Priyanka overseeing her campaign there.

After Sonia Gandhi moved to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, there was speculation about Priyanka contesting from Raebareli. However, for the 2024 general elections, the Congress did not nominate Priyanka Gandhi. Rahul contested from both the Wayanad seat in Kerala and Raebareli and emerged victorious from both. He later vacated the Wayanad seat, allowing Priyanka to win in the by-election.

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, both pivotal members of the Gandhi family, highlight the significance of Raebareli as more than just a political constituency, marking it as a stronghold of historical and familial legacy.
