On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building of the Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna and laid the foundation stone for the new international airport in Bihta, located on the city's outskirts.
According to the report, Patna Airport's new terminal was constructed at a cost of ₹1,200 crore, while the civil enclave at Bihta Airport is set to be developed with a cost of ₹1,410 crore. Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, and Vijay Kumar Sinha were present at the event.
Prime Minister Modi shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, 'Patna Airport gets a modern terminal! This is a positive milestone for Bihar's progress.'
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar remarked that these projects will foster air connectivity and enhance the tourism sector in the state. 'It will accelerate economic growth and overall development in the state,' he noted.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary described it as a historic moment for Bihar, highlighting the economic boost it offers to not just Bihar but the entire Eastern India region. Civil Aviation Minister Naidu declared, 'Today, air services in Bihar have truly taken off.'

He explained that the new terminal is equipped with international-grade facilities, capable of handling 3,000 passengers daily and 10 million passengers annually. Its design draws inspiration from Mithila art and the regional landscape.
Foundation of Bihta International Airport
Meanwhile, Bihta's proposed airport terminal will cover an area of 68,000 square meters and is designed to manage 5 million passengers by 2047. The complex will feature multi-level parking, service buildings, an energy-efficient roofing system, LED lighting, and climatization facilities.
These initiatives will create new opportunities in tourism, trade, investment, and employment in the state. Investment prospects in education, healthcare, and more will also grow, advancing Patna as a thriving economic center.
