In the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a senior district administrative officer supervising the implementation of a ceasefire agreement between two warring tribes was shot by unidentified armed assailants. Reports indicate that the officer sustained injuries in the incident. Police have provided details on the matter.
On Friday, police reported that an administrative officer overseeing a ceasefire agreement between rival tribes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was attacked by unidentified armed individuals.
According to the police, Assistant Commissioner Saeed Mannan Khan of Upper Kurram was present with the police in the area to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire between Shia and Sunni tribes when he was targeted by unknown attackers. He has been hospitalized with injuries.
Disruption in Peace Efforts in the Area
Following the incident, a police team launched a search operation to find the attackers, which created further hurdles in the peace efforts in the area.
Initiation of the Jirga
In parallel, a grand Jirga has commenced at the Commissioner's House in Kohat to establish lasting peace in Kurram. Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, an advisor to the provincial Chief Minister, is participating in the meeting. The Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary and Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed are also present.
The Jirga includes military officers, peace committee members, and tribal elders representing both sides of Upper and Lower Kurram.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the attack and wished for Mannan's swift recovery. Gandapur stated, 'Targeting district administration officials is highly regrettable and condemnable.'
He warned that elements disrupting public order and spreading hatred will be dealt with strictly. The Chief Minister also requested a report on the incident and ordered the identification and arrest of the perpetrators as soon as possible.
