The opposition alliances forming the 'INDIA' Block have declared their support for one of the candidates contesting the Khajuraho Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh. This announcement comes following the rejection of Samajwadi Party (SP) nominee Meera Yadav's nomination.

In a state governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress had allocated the Khajuraho seat to the SP in a seat-sharing arrangement. The BJP has fielded its state president VD Sharma from this constituency. A Congress leader stated, 'We will back one of the candidates against the BJP. We aim to teach them a lesson.'

'INDIA' Block's Accusation

An 'INDIA' Block meeting was convened on Saturday at the Pradesh Congress headquarters to devise a strategy against the ruling party. During this time, leaders from Congress, SP, and other coalition partners criticized the election officer and the district magistrate of Panna. They reported that the SP candidate was made to wait for three hours on Friday while the officer was absent from his seat.

The Reason Behind Nomination Rejection

Congress state unit chief Jitu Patwari explained that Meera Yadav was present in the district magistrate's office since noon, but he did not arrive. They repeatedly called the district magistrate to no avail. Supporting Patwari’s claim, SP's state head Manoj Yadav criticized the BJP for the unfolding events.

The SP candidate's nomination was rejected on Friday by the election officer due to an unsigned section and submission of an outdated voter list.

Akhilesh's Counterattack

SP leader Akhilesh Yadav has reacted to the situation. He labeled the cancellation of 'INDIA' Block's SP candidate Meera Yadav's nomination from Khajuraho as a blatant assassination of democracy. Questioning why the officer accepted the form if it was indeed unsigned, Akhilesh accused the BJP of desperation and deceit. He stated that those capable of trickery in front of cameras could only be plotting behind the scenes after receiving the form. Akhilesh insisted that the BJP is false not only in words but in actions and accused it of corrupting the administrative system. He demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident, declaring that unfair cancellation of nomination papers is a democratic offense.
