In a surprising political development, the Samajwadi Party's candidate for the Khajuraho Lok Sabha seat, Meera Yadav, has suffered a major setback as her nomination was dismissed by the Returning Officer post review. The Congress party had earlier relinquished the seat to the SP as part of a seat-sharing arrangement. It was disclosed by an official that the Returning Officer from Panna has rejected Meera Yadav's nomination paperwork on the grounds of her failure to sign on 'Form B' and attach a certified copy of the voter list for the 2023 assembly elections, thus complicating her candidacy.
According to news agency PTI, Meera Yadav’s husband Deep Narayan Yadav expressed intentions to challenge the Returning Officer's decision in the High Court, stating that there had been a verification of the form after the scrutiny yesterday. He remarked that it's the duty of the Returning Officer to rectify any discrepancies, regardless of the candidate's literacy. He also mentioned that while the nomination form was deemed acceptable until yesterday, suddenly two deficiencies have been pointed out today: one being the attached voter list is not certified or outdated, and secondly, the candidate was expected to sign in two places but had only signed at one. He alleged they did not receive a certified copy of the voter list until April 3rd, hence attached the copy that was available to them.
