Goa Shipyard Limited has launched a new warship, INS Triput, for the Indian Navy. This marks the 9th unit of the Talwar Class Frigate. Constructed began on January 29, 2021, and today, July 23, 2024, it was ceremoniously launched.

By October 2026, it will become part of the Indian Navy upon successful trials. Meanwhile, Goa Shipyard is constructing another warship of the same class, which is yet to be named and is expected to join in 2027. Let’s explore the capabilities of INS Triput...

All Talwar Class warships are essentially stealth guided missile frigates. These vessels have a displacement of 3,850 tons, with a length of 409.5 feet, a beam of 49.10 feet, and a draught of 13.9 feet. The ships can achieve a top speed of 59 km/h on the high seas.

When cruising at a speed of 26 km/h, they can cover a range of 4,850 km. At higher speeds of 56 km/h, they achieve a range of 2,600 km. INS Talwar can sustain 180 crew members, including 18 officers, for up to 30 days at sea before requiring resupply.

The warship is equipped with advanced electronic warfare systems and has four KT-216 decoy launchers. It is also outfitted with 24 Shtil-1 medium-range missiles, 8 Igla-1E missiles, 8 vertical launch anti-ship missile club, 8 vertical launch BrahMos missiles for both anti-ship and land attack missions.

It boasts a 100mm A-190E naval gun, a 76mm Oto Melara naval gun, 2 AK-630 close-in weapon systems, and 2 Kashtan CIWS guns. In addition to these formidable guns, the warship features two 533mm torpedo tubes and a rocket launcher. It is capable of hosting a Kamov-28, Kamov-31, or a Dhruv helicopter.
