Loss in Furniture Business Leads to Crime: ATM Card Swap Theft, 5 Arrested

In the city of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, five young men who initially worked in the furniture and statue crafting business turned to crime after facing financial losses. The accused would deceive ATM users, render them unconscious, and then swap their debit cards to steal money. Agra's ACP, Hari Parvat Akshay Sanjay Mahadik, confirmed the bust and arrest of all five individuals. The police recovered 52 debit cards, cash, firearms, and a car from their possession.

ACP Akshay Sanjay Mahadik reported that on August 5th, the gang targeted a resident from Ruknakut at the HDFC Bank ATM in Sikandra. The culprits distracted the victim, rendered him unconscious, swapped his card, and withdrew 20,000 rupees from his account. The act was confirmed by CCTV footage, where suspects were seen outside the ATM on a scooter.

The arrested individuals were identified as Sohil, Aman, Khalid, Haroon, and Faraz from Ghaziabad, with Sohil and Aman being the leading masterminds. During interrogation, they admitted to choosing a life of crime due to insufficient earnings in their business.

The suspects confessed to carrying chloroform for rendering victims unconscious. As soon as their targets were out cold, they would quickly swap debit cards and flee with the cash. The police investigation revealed that the gang had conducted similar operations not only in Delhi-NCR but also in other states.
