An intense encounter between police and criminals unfolded in Ghaziabad's Vijay Nagar area, leading to the capture of two notorious thieves who had snatched a chain from an elderly woman. One criminal was wounded by a bullet during the chase and appeared pleading to the officers, saying—'Forgive me, sir, I made a mistake.' According to the police, these suspects had snatched the chain of an elderly woman in the Pratap Vihar area on August 23.
On the night of August 28, a police patrol in Vijay Nagar noticed two suspicious young men on a motorcycle attempt to flee upon spotting officers. As the police pursued, the suspects' bike lost control, leading to their fall. Although instructed to surrender, the criminals opened fire on the police.
Back and forth fire exchange ensued, during which Saeed, the son of Ujaluddin from Masuri, Ghaziabad, sustained injuries. Meanwhile, his accomplice Anshu, the son of Mukesh Halwai from Shankarpuri, Ghaziabad, was apprehended on the spot. Saeed has been admitted to the district MMG hospital for treatment.
The police recovered a chain, 5500 rupees in cash, a stolen bike, a .315 bore gun, and live cartridges from their possession. During questioning, the criminals confessed to being active in the NCR region for a long time, stealing bikes to snatch chains, purses, and phones from people. They would sell off the stolen goods for profit. Ritesh Tripathi, ACP of Kotwali Nagar, stated that the alertness of the Vijay Nagar police played a pivotal role in nabbing these seasoned offenders involved in robberies and chain-snatching incidents. Strict legal measures are underway against them.
