Amid the buzz about a potential no-confidence motion during the upcoming assembly session, Manipur CM N. Biren Singh reached Delhi on Saturday evening. He started his day by leading a meeting of the ruling party legislators at the CM's Secretariat, but some key members were reportedly missing. Later in the evening, the Chief Minister took a chartered flight to the capital.
In fact, prior to the commencement of the Manipur Assembly Budget Session slated for February 10, CM N. Biren Singh arrived in the national capital from Imphal with four officials on a chartered flight. According to the flight schedule, CM Biren Singh, along with his team, departed for Delhi on Saturday evening at 6:30 PM and planned to return to Imphal by Monday around 12:30 PM. The 7th session of the 12th Manipur Assembly is set to begin on February 10.
Earlier, on Wednesday, CM Biren and seven legislators visited Delhi to meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, they returned to Imphal after participating in the Kumbh Mela without meeting him. Meanwhile, on condition of anonymity, a legislator expressed, "We want a change in leadership, as several legislators are dissatisfied under Biren's leadership. We are open to accepting any legislator as the new Chief Minister."
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh is under growing pressure back home amid political turbulence. This visit to Delhi is anticipated to recalibrate political strategies, especially with the tense atmosphere back home.
