Kota Suicide:
Once hailed as the city of dreams for students, Kota is now grappling with a surge in suicides. These incidents have sparked a new debate about the educational system and the mounting pressure on students. Congress leader and Wayanad MP, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has expressed deep concern, referring to it as a time for 'collective introspection.'
Kota, known as the education hub, is currently in the spotlight due to an increase in student suicides. In January 2025, six students have tragically taken their own lives, with five preparing for the JEE engineering entrance exam and one preparing for the NEET medical entrance exam.
Priyanka Gandhi took to her social media account, 'X' (formerly Twitter), calling these events 'extremely frightening and heartbreaking.' She questioned the increasing pressure on students and the education system, urging the government, parents, and institutions to introspect and find solutions.
In her tweet, she wrote, 'The news of two children committing suicide in Kota, Rajasthan on the same day is extremely terrifying and heartbreaking. Within three weeks, five students have committed suicide, which is very concerning. It's time for educational institutions, parents, and governments to come together, introspect, and understand why this is happening. Are our children under such immense pressure that they are unable to cope, or is the entire environment unfriendly to them? The government must take concrete steps in this direction.'

Of the six students who committed suicide, five were preparing for JEE, and one female student was residing in Kota for NEET preparation.
Questions on the Education System
Priyanka Gandhi also stated in her tweet that the government should deeply study children's psychology, the education system, and the environment and initiate reforms. It remains to be seen what concrete steps the government and administration will take in this direction.
