A man in Kozhikode, Kerala, succumbed to an overdose of MDMA drugs. To avoid police crackdown, he ingested two sachets of MDMA. Subsequently, he was admitted to Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital, yet tragically his life could not be saved. The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Shanid, a resident of Mecaw Village near Thamarassery.

According to police, locals complained about a surge in drug-related incidents in their area. Acting on these complaints, the police intensified their operations against drug peddlers. Seeing the police, Shanid panicked and in a bid to escape, stealthily swallowed two sachets of MDMA. He later informed the police himself.

The police then admitted Shanid to Kozhikode Government Medical College. Upon examination, doctors discovered two sachets with white granules in his stomach. Immediate surgery was advised by doctors.

Despite the medical advice, Shanid refused to undergo surgery. When the police contacted his father regarding the surgical procedure, he too declined to give consent. The police informed that Shanid's father stated that Shanid had numerous charges against him already and had not shown signs of reform even at the age of 28.

Kozhikode Government Medical College declared Shanid dead at 11 AM on Saturday. Thamarassery police registered a case against the deceased for drug trafficking. It is noteworthy that MDMA is synthesized chemically and overdoses can be fatal. Typically, doses range from 75 to 125 mg, but escalating it to 200 mg may result in death.
