Daughter of the incarcerated separatist leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Sama Shabbir, and the granddaughter of the pro-Pakistan late Syed Ali Shah Gilani, Ruwa Shah, have distanced themselves from separatist ideology. Both have announced their fidelity to India's sovereignty. They utilized public notices in local newspapers to make a pronounced departure from separatist politics.

Ruwa Shah, the daughter of Gilani's son-in-law Altaf Ahmed Shah, also known as Altaf Fantoosh, released a public notice detaching herself from the Hurriyat Conference faction established by her late grandfather. She confirmed her disassociation and lack of sympathy or inclination towards the ideology of the Hurriyat Conference. It's to note that Syed Ali Shah Gilani was a pivotal figure in separatist politics and the president of the hardliner Hurriyat faction. Gilani was a staunch advocate of pro-Pakistan politics until his demise in 2021.

'I will uphold the values of India's Constitution'

Ruwa Shah stated in a notice earlier this week in a local newspaper, "I am a loyal citizen of India and am not affiliated with any organization or union that opposes the Indian federation, and I uphold my country (India)'s constitution." Ruwa's father was previously jailed on charges of alleged terrorist funding and passed away after a prolonged illness last year.

'Sama Shabbir also releases public notice in newspaper'

Similarly, former CBSE topper of Kashmir, the 23-year-old Sama Shabbir, has released public notices in a local newspaper, emphasizing her status as a loyal Indian citizen and unequivocally distancing herself from the banned separatist organization established by her father. Sama Shabbir's father, Shabbir Shah, is currently detained in Tihar Jail on charges of money laundering and terror funding.

'I am not affiliated with DFP or their ideology'

Sama Shabbir said in the notice, "I am a faithful citizen of India and I am not associated with any person or organization that opposes the sovereignty of the Indian federation. I am not linked in any way to DFP or its ideology." She also warned of legal action against anyone connecting her to separatist groups without permission.

Note that Shabbir Shah had established the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) in May 1998, which is a separatist political party. However, last year, the central government banned his organization under UAPA.

'Shabbir charged with terrorist funding'

Shabbir Ahmed Shah (70) was arrested in 2017 by the Enforcement Directorate on alleged money laundering charges related to terrorist funding. Subsequently, the National Investigation Agency also filed a chargesheet against him for alleged terrorist funding.

'Sama studied law in the UK'

The case is linked to an incident in 2005 when Delhi Police's Special Cell caught alleged hawala dealer Mohammed Aslam Wani with cash, potentially connecting him to Shah. In 2019, ED summoned Sama in the case, but at that time, she did not appear as she was studying law in the United Kingdom.
