The skeletal remains of a woman found at the DM estate in Kanpur were identified as those of a woman reported missing by her family four months prior. The gym trainer allegedly murdered and buried her four months ago and then disappeared. She was a regular visitor at his gym, and police revealed that there was a relationship between the two, which grew tense as the trainer was engaged to someone else, igniting Ekta's anger.

The deceased, known as Ekta Gupta (32), was married to Rahul Gupta, who recounted that she frequented a gym in the Green Park area for nearly 3 to 4 years. On June 24th, she left for the gym early in the morning but never returned. Rahul reported this to the police, suspecting the gym trainer had kidnapped her; however, at the time, the police presumed she had eloped with him. Their continuous investigation eventually led to the grim discovery at the DM estate.

Rahul expressed his distress over how even supposedly secure zones could harbor such danger, highlighting how the gym trainer, regularly visiting the estate for badminton, exploited his familiarity with the area to commit the crime. Digging a five-foot grave was no spontaneous act. The bereft husband, a businessman, also mentioned their two children—a 12-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son.

The police determined that Ekta Gupta and gym trainer Vimal Soni were involved, and tensions rose when Ekta protested his engagement, which resulted in a deep conflict between them.

'Ekta’s Fatal Punch Brought on Her Death'

According to DCP SK Singh, during interrogation, gym trainer Vimal Soni confessed that, in a fit of rage, he delivered a punch to Ekta resulting in her death. He then transported her body by car to a club next to the DM compound, where he buried her among the trees. Following the murder, Soni went into hiding.

Accused Took Up Waitstaff Job at a Hotel

Post-burial, Vimal Soni traveled across several cities, including Punjab, without using a mobile phone to avoid detection. Though elusive, he worked as a waiter for 20 days at a hotel to sustain himself. He was eventually arrested in Kanpur after contacting an acquaintance there, which tipped off the surveillance team.

Accused Misled Police Multiple Times

Throughout the investigation, the accused attempted to mislead the police. Initially, Soni claimed to have disposed of the body in the Ganges, later pointing to another location. Ultimately, he confessed to burying the body next to the DM estate late into the night. He admitted to being in a relationship with the victim for over a year.
