The conflict between Iran and the United States appears to be intensifying once again. According to local media reports, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been relocated to a specialized underground bunker in Tehran. Citing two sources close to the government, the reports suggest that top military and security officials have perceived an imminent American strike as a severe threat, prompting this protective move. Meanwhile, Khamenei has delegated executive power to one of his sons.

Based on Iran International's report, this underground facility is an exceedingly secure and fortified refuge, interlinked by a complex network of tunnel-like paths. Sources further assert that Khamenei's third son, Masoud Khamenei, is now responsible for daily operations within the Supreme Leader's office and is acting as the main liaison with the government's executive branches.

Meanwhile, the United States has intensified its military deployment towards the Middle East. The USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group is currently positioned in the Indian Ocean and is anticipated to reach the Arabian Sea or the Persian Gulf in the near future. This strike group comprises guided missile destroyers like USS Spruance, USS Frank E. Petersen Jr., and USS Michael Murphy.

Equipped with Advanced Air Power

In terms of aerial capabilities, the carrier strike group is armed with F-35C stealth fighter jets and F/A-18E Super Hornet aircraft. Additionally, the US has dispatched F-15E Strike Eagles, while Britain has sent Typhoon fighter jets to the region.

Why Did Trump Send Warships to the Middle East?

US President Donald Trump and senior officials have described this deployment as a precautionary measure and a display of strength. They assert that this move is aimed at deterring Iran from further provocations, particularly amidst growing concerns over nuclear ambitions and responses to protests. Trump has clearly stated the necessity for a leadership change in Iran.
