The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made history in Madhya Pradesh by achieving a clean sweep across all 29 seats. Amidst this landmark victory, Indore clinched a remarkable triumph. The BJP candidate, Shankar Lalwani, outperformed his closest rival with a monumental lead of 1,175,092 votes. However, another record in Indore was simultaneously being set - the highest number of votes for NOTA (None of the Above). Shankar Lalwani also recorded the highest vote tally in the country, setting yet another benchmark.
In the Indore seat, NOTA garnered a record 218,674 votes, an unprecedented count in the area's electoral history. Back in the 2019 General Elections, the NOTA option in Gopalganj, Bihar, received 51,660 votes. Thus, Indore, known for setting records, has marked yet another in its name.
The local political landscape was shaken when the Congress nominee, Akshay Kanti Bam, withdrew his nomination and joined the BJP, leaving no real competition for the party. However, Congress clearly stated their intention to run a campaign encouraging voters to opt for NOTa, And hence, Indore saw the highest number of NOTA votes being cast, creating a historic moment.
Record for the Largest Margin of Victory
Indore also set a record for the largest margin of victory in the country. The BJP faced little challenge in the area and was anticipated to win by a considerable margin; however, the final results showed a victory by the greatest margin ever seen in India. BJP's Shankar Lalwani triumphed over the Bahujan Samaj Party candidate by 1,175,092 votes. Moreover, Shankar Lalwani held the record for receiving the most votes countrywide, with a staggering tally of 1,226,751 in his favor.
