Marking his first visit to China since the 2020 Galwan Valley incident, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is embarking on a significant journey towards mending India-China relations. The confrontations in Galwan Valley had strained ties between the two powers, but this visit stands as a crucial diplomatic gesture to forge a stronger bond.
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng encouraged India to bolster bilateral cooperation. Han emphasized that both India and China, as major developing nations and prominent members of the 'Global South', stand to gain from aiding each other's growth and advancing collectively. He eloquently described this partnership as the 'Dragon-Elephant Tango'.
Minister Jaishankar's agenda includes participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) foreign ministers' meeting and engaging in dialogue with Chinese leaders.
Progressive Steps in India-China Relations
Vice President Zheng mentioned the positive encounter between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the recent BRICS summit in Kazan. This meeting paved the way for a new chapter in India-China relations. Now, the key lies in realizing the agreements from that dialogue and respecting each other's concerns to further strengthen ties.
