Mumbai's notorious Arthur Road Jail is abuzz with news of a violent clash among inmates. A quarrel between two groups led to an attack on infamous gangster Prasad Pujari. This incident, reportedly occurring on July 6, only surfaced on Monday. Thanks to prompt intervention by the jail authorities, the situation was contained without escalating. A formal complaint has been lodged at the NM Joshi Marg police station by the jail administration.
According to sources, the dispute sparked over a trivial matter within the barracks. An inmate passing through noticed another with his legs outstretched, blocking the path. When asked to move, the latter responded with insults, targeting both the complainant and gangster Prasad Pujari. The situation rapidly spiraled as factions faced off, culminating in a heated brawl.
The jail authorities reported that Prasad Pujari, housed in the same barrack, initially attempted to calm tensions. However, he became the target of an assault by the opposing faction. Four inmates reportedly ganged up, attacking Pujari, who along with his allies fought back resiliently. The skirmish, though brief, lasted just about a minute.

The moment authorities were alerted, they promptly arrived to manage the scene. There were no serious injuries in this scuffle, but considering the gravity, the jail administration has initiated a complaint with the local police. Consequently, police have registered a case under section 194(2) of the Indian Penal Code against a total of seven inmates, including Prasad Pujari.
Prasad Pujari is known as a most-wanted gangster with several extortion and homicide-related charges filed against him in Mumbai. He had previously fled India, seeking refuge in China, where he married a Chinese national. However, investigative agencies successfully issued an Interpol Red Corner Notice for his capture. After nearly 20 years, he was deported from China last year and has since been incarcerated in Mumbai.
