Team India Claims ICC Champions Trophy:
Under Rohit Sharma's leadership, India avenged their 25-year-old setback against New Zealand, clinching the ICC Champions Trophy. A quarter-century ago, New Zealand snatched glory from India, then captained by Sourav Ganguly, in the 2000 final.
In that decisive game, Ganguly played a spectacular innings of 117 runs, but victory eluded India. This time, Rohit led from the front, playing a fierce knock of 76 runs in the 2025 final, guiding his team to triumph.
India’s Historic Victory Seals the Title
What makes this win extraordinary is India’s flawless journey, remaining undefeated throughout the tournament. With this final victory, Team India has etched another record by winning the ICC Champions Trophy for the third time.
Upon clinching this title, India has surpassed Australia, who have won the trophy twice, in this ninth installment of the Champions Trophy.
Titles Previously Secured in 2002 (Jointly) and 2013
Previously, India emerged as joint champions with Sri Lanka in the 2002 edition, which took place in Sri Lanka. Later, under Mahendra Singh Dhoni's captaincy, India secured victory in the 2013 season.
The Champions Trophy was hosted in England in 2017, where Pakistan claimed their maiden title. The tournament scheduled for 2021 was postponed due to the pandemic. After an eight-year hiatus, the tournament resumed, once again belonging to India.
