How are Exit Polls executed?
An Exit Poll involves a survey where voters are asked a series of questions, including who they voted for. This survey is conducted on the day of voting itself. Teams from survey agencies engage with voters outside polling booths, and these interactions are then analyzed to forecast the election outcome. Several agencies carry out these Exit Polls in India.
The three types of electoral surveys
1.
Pre-Poll: These surveys are conducted after the announcement of election dates but before the commencement of voting.
2.
Exit Poll: This survey is undertaken on the day of voting. It is an attempt to gauge the voters’ mood through questions posed to individuals as they leave the polling booth.
3.
Post-Poll: Conducted after the voting ends. For instance, after June 1st, post-poll surveys will initiate, generally aiming to understand the voting patterns of different demographics.
