Gearing up for the ODI series against Australia, Rohit Sharma has undergone a significant fitness transformation. While the former Indian captain managed only 8 runs in the first ODI, his off-field body transformation has been the talk of the town. Rohit's focus is set on the 2027 ODI World Cup, striving earnestly in preparation. He's successfully shed about 11 kilos, achieving this through rigorous training sessions in the gym.
After returning from family vacations this year, fans were surprised to see Rohit looking heavier. However, intensive training with former Team India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has completely revamped his body. During the Australia series, Abhishek revealed Rohit’s journey of transformation, sharing that he engaged in bodybuilding-style workouts, performing 700-800 reps for every muscle group daily. Each day included three hours of dedicated training over three months. Following this, Rohit shifted focus towards enhancing his cricket skills.

Nayar mentioned to JioHotstar, 'It might have shocked many. The Team India strength and conditioning coach, Adrian Le Roux, might reprimand me. Rohit executed 700-800 reps for every body part during daily 90-minute sessions. Even when focusing on chest and triceps, 800 reps were completed. The aim was to build strength and endurance with numerous reps. Every session wrapped up with a 15-20 minute CrossFit routine, emphasizing more on cardio and movement.
Rohit Sharma's Dietary Changes
Training wasn’t the sole change, Rohit Sharma exhibited rigorous discipline with his diet, steering clear from favorite snacks like Vada Pav. Abhishek Nayar pointed out, 'Training for three hours holds less value compared to maintaining diet and discipline throughout the rest of the day. This dedication enabled the transformation, facilitating agility and speed improvement after losing 11 kilos.'
Nayar reflects, 'After IPL, a picture of Rohit from his vacation went viral, sparking speculation about his weight gain. The conversation steered towards what we needed to do. We aimed to ensure his fitness for cricket, and we also considered the fans’ perspective. It was crucial for him to maintain a prolonged career, eyeing the 2027 World Cup. The primary goal was a body transformation.'
Rohit Sharma currently participates only in the ODI format for India, making match fitness a priority. Watching whether Rohit and Virat Kohli opt to play domestic cricket will be interesting, as it would help retain their form. One certainty is that Rohit is keen on extending his cricket career and competing in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
