One of the masterminds behind the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks, Tahawwur Rana, is being brought back to India today following extradition from the United States. After Ajmal Kasab, Rana is the second culpable figure from the 26/11 attacks to be captured alive.
Upon landing in Delhi, Rana will be housed in the high-security cell at the NIA headquarters, accessible solely to ‘Special 12’ officials, including DG NIA Sadanand Date, IG Ashish Batra, and DIG Jaya Roy. Any other officer wishing to enter must seek prior permission.
Interrogation Cell Prepped for Rana
A special aircraft has been arranged to transport Rana directly to NIA custody upon landing in Delhi, where an interrogation cell is already set up. Sources inform 'Aaj Tak' that during his questioning, Rana will be confronted with substantial evidence related to the 26/11 attacks, including voice recordings, photographs, video footage, and emails.
These pieces of evidence might clarify the conspiracy between David Headley and Tahawwur Rana. They will play a crucial role in unveiling his involvement with Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley and exploring his associations with the Pakistani military and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The Rana-Headley Connection
Rana, formerly serving as a doctor in the Pakistani military, facilitated terrorist reconnaissance in Mumbai through his immigration consultancy business. This reconnaissance was executed by Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley, who is currently imprisoned in the U.S.
The NIA’s dossier outlines how Headley contacted Rana 231 times during his eight trips to India before the 26/11 attacks, showcasing the depth of their conversations.
